- Characteristics
Alto Naranjal is a 12-hectare plot on a steep slope near Buesaco, where Leonardo Loaiza grows coffee in Colombia's mountainous Nariño region. The very high altitudes, over 2,000 meters, and excellent sun exposure yield cherries rich in sugars, slowly matured, with abundant fuel for fermentation and roasting.
Leonardo works the land together with his brothers Eduardo, Miguel, and Fernando — they chose to continue working together instead of dividing the farm, as often happens in the area. The lot is a mix of Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo varieties, washed processed, which translates the potential of these intensely sweet Nariño cherries into a complex profile.
In the cup: vivid citrus, red berries, and deep dried fruit.
