Finca La Claudina is located in Ciudad Bolívar, a Colombian town with a coffee tradition, about 100 km southwest of Medellín. Surrounded by volcanic soil, high altitudes, and the warm, humid breezes of the Andes, the farm benefits from an ideal environment for expressive and high-quality coffees. From the hill, one can see the Los Farallones del Citará massif, which reaches an altitude of 3,900 meters.
The farm is managed by Juan Saldarriaga, a young second-generation producer who took over the family project with the vision of pushing quality far beyond the traditional Colombian market. La Claudina has made a name for itself through its attention to processing and rare varieties.
This lot is a Maragogype processed by the honey method—a rare mutation of the Typica variety, nicknamed "elephant beans" due to their unusually large size. Maragogype is sought after for its delicate and elegant cup profile: clarity, complexity, and refined sweetness. Honey processing, with the mucilage partially retained on the bean during drying, adds texture and aromatic intensity.
In the cup: notes of grapes, yellow fruits, tropical sweetness, honey, and floral.
