Cassis is a washed lot from Karimikui, part of the Rungeto Farmer's Cooperative Society, that captures the characteristic vibrancy of the Kirinyaga region. Grown on the slopes of Mount Kenya, at an altitude of 1,800 meters, it offers deep and dense notes of berries, balanced by a floral and citrus complexity — due to careful processing and sustainable practices at the mill.
The Karimikui coffee factory, established in 1966, spans six acres and serves the villages of Githureia, Gituba, and Kia Mugumo — an area where most smallholder farmers traditionally grow tea, not coffee.
In the cup: dark berries, currant jam, and rosehips.
